Erm, are you shopping or dating?

When it comes to the relationship between guys and girls is it really just as simple as the image above? I used to be all glass-half-full kinda gal and think not, but lately – I’m not so sure.

This may seem kind of silly, but recently I find that being out in a club or pub environment is seriously not dissimilar to embarking on a shopping trip. Think about it – there’s scouting for potential items (or potential mates), there’s an element of impulse buying (making out with that random guy that you didn’t plan pre-booze and you just know you’re going to regret in the morning) and sometimes even a transaction at the end. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Let me break it down, yo.

Recently while at a bar, a lovely young man offered to buy our party a round of drinks, we politely accepted (hey, why not?) and stood around chatting for about 10 minutes. After that, we pushed on to mingle further and said ‘lovely young man’ got pretty huffy pretty quickly. (Cue eye roll)

So ladies, my question is, does a drink – or any gentlemanly gesture for that matter – require a payback of some sort? Whether it’s half an hour of your undivided attention or something a little more sinister? If so, should we really be partaking in these ‘transactions’? Because if so, I’d like to know about the refund policy, pronto.

Do you think guys expect their gentlemanly gestures to be rewarded?
